It's been a year now since East Meets West came about and a lot has happened. Hours of footage, hundreds of photo's, buckets and cans of paint, our show with NIKE...... and the rest of it. We hope to be working on another big collab soon so keep an eye out for that one. Until then, here are the final shots for Maiko that we didn't get to post up. So finally the 6 months of hard work was showcased at NIKETOWN in the I.D. studio last Friday and it went crazy! From 7pm when the doors opened people started flooding in and at one point you couldn't even move. Security had to step up and actually turn people away, which we are sorry about if anyone is reading this who tried to get in! It was out of our hands.
These photo's haven been kindly passed onto us as we had some serious camera issues but we will have more posted up soon. Bring on the final show I say! More info on that coming soon. Oh yeah and that is Raekwon from WU-TANG. ;)

So the time has come to let you all know what's going on! EAST MEETS WEST ARE COLLABORATING WITH NIKE!!!!
For 3 days only, E.M.W. will be exhibiting some early works in the NIKE SECOND FLOOR I.D. STUDIO on the 24th, 25th and 26th of July. The opening night is unfortunatly invite only and very limited tickets will be available. However, you will be able to check out the works over the weekend and meet the girls and ourselves. Also on show will be shoes designed by the girls which will be based on their interpretation of Western culture. Flyer artwork will be posted soon. Big shout out to Q for hooking this up! I went to go finish Chan's face off late last week as I ran out of paint but the owner of the sopt was happy how it was. I'm still going to head over this week to fix it up but here is the result so far.

I can't explain the stressful time Chi has experienced over the past couple of months. Chi was the first girl I approached for this project and although she was out of the country visiting family in Taipei, all would be good pre christmas to meet and get to work. All communication was through Facebook, images sent by email etc etc.
The day she was to land in the UK a bunch of us were going to meet at THE ROOTS gig where we were waiting to get a call from Miss Lo.........but nothing.
The next day I got a txt saying the customs had noticed she didn't have the correct paperwork and sent her back to Taipei. SHIT!!!! The severly pissed off Chi is still there but should be blessing us with her presence in March.
Here is what she has to say from the other side of the world......

"It's very different this time. I don't know how to describe. Everything I see touches me. Everyday I'm thinking a lot of things on my mind. I never liked staying here longer than a month. It kills me. I love being a workaholic in hectic London. But this time, something tells me that I need to be here to protect my families. Friends say it's a good time for me to rest cos when I'm in London, food and sleep is usually the last thing I think about. I do miss everyone, work and my life a lot, I miss it every minute! But this time is different... despite all the dramas that's happened to me and how I can't wait to be back in London, I love this beautiful country with beautiful food.
It was funny how people couldn't recognise me at my brother's wedding. Their memories of Chi still stay with the little chubby girl, tanned with a very long pony tail. and suddently she bloomed... I was getting much more attention than the bride at my brother's wedding. I was tipsy with red wine, instead of shutting me up from talking bull shit, my dad was pimping me with glasses of whisky. yes it was at my brother's wedding. and we did it twice, at both ceremonies. The club scene is not as mad as in London. I went out couple of nights with friends. The girls are all very pretty, unlike me, I'm the wrong image of this nation. haha honeslty... I get a lot of free drinks tho, I don't know why, maybe because I talk louder... with a pint glass in my hand. I got to visit Tokyo too, which was very nice. I had a good X'mas and New Years with boyfriend. We met a lot of great people too. I can see myself live in Japan easily. It was a bit crazy that I decided to book my flight on X'mas eve and flew the next morning. Tokyo is a murder on the wallet. I didn't go crazy on shopping tho, only bought myself a cheap watch cos already a week of food binge was costing us a lot. We literally ate all our money gone. Until now, I still feel like Homer Simpson. You can see some photos on my blog!
This weekend is going to be my first Chinese New Year in seven years. With all my married cousins and their kids... and it's also the first time without my old pop. I miss you everyday. I wish you were here to see it, and be with us. You always know things so well and you used to be so patient listening to my stupid version of crap story on the three piglets...
Oh and they all say that my mandarin has improved a lot a lot. but I still get people asking where I come from everywhere I go. They say I sound like a foreigner. I usually tell them I have problem with my tongue, just to stop them from asking more questions... "

So I have been working on different techniques for the final pieces. Massive fan of smudging/shading when it comes to chalk and pencil so tried to work that with a combination of spray, acrylick and posca. Still some work to go into it but so far I'm feeling happy with it.

So it's Christmas day. A day when people are filled happiness and get together with the fam and kick back, right?. Well not for a certain someone who decided to go all out and hate on EAST MEETS WEST. The girl who we will call "L" explained how she thought that we were "Dicks" for categorizing asian girls and asked how and why we think that "All asian girls adapt to Western Culture". I can't recall saying this or does it say it in the write up. She went on to say that the girls are like any other and are "no different to any white girl, black girl or Chician". She was also very happy to let us know that she is an aspiring film maker herself and that she will be "making a documentary about assholes like yourselves!". Look out for that one people!

Anyway, I'm not too great with words so hopefully she will get my feelings on the matter with this! This is "L" if you didn't know ;o).

Earlier this week we started our first shoot with Shukyi. We hit up Southbank on one of the coldest nights, plenty of bums snooping around and a bunch of skaters doing their thing. It was a case of doing the shots and having her jacket ready for her to warm up. This went on for around 2 hours! Poor girl ;o). At the end of it, we were all happy and ready to call it a night. Hello people from all over the world.

So you are probably thinking what all of this about right!? Well to keep it short, myself (the painter) and Nathan James Tetty (the photographer) are working together to re-create and document 6 girls with asian roots. A short film will be made about them, artwork will be produced some heavy photography will be shot. At the end of the project an exhibition will be held and a hella big party.
